When should you call an emergency locksmith?
Emergency locksmith assistance may be needed when:
- the door closed behind you and the key remained inside;
- you lost your apartment or accommodation keys;
- the key is available, but the door will not open;
- the cylinder turns without operating the lock;
- the lock or internal mechanism has failed;
- you cannot securely lock the entrance door;
- you are locked out of an Airbnb, rented apartment or office.
Before calling, check whether a trusted person has a spare key. If no spare key is available, call us and describe what happened, where you are and what type of door you have.
The door closed and the key is inside
This commonly happens with entrance doors fitted with a fixed knob or non-operating exterior handle. Once the door closes, it can only be opened again with a key.
We first assess the door, lock and fittings, then select the least disruptive practical opening method. Non-destructive opening is preferred whenever technically possible.
The exact method depends on:
- the type of door;
- the installed cylinder;
- whether the key is inserted on the inside;
- the condition of the lock;
- the security features of the door.
We explain the expected procedure before starting the work.
Lost apartment or Airbnb keys
If the key has been lost, opening the door may not be the complete solution. The missing key could still provide access to the property.
For security reasons, cylinder replacement is often recommended after lost or stolen keys. Once the door has been opened, we can install a suitable replacement cylinder where the required part is available.
A new cylinder commonly includes three or five new keys, depending on the selected model.
We carry a broad selection of commonly used cylinders, locks and replacement parts in our service vehicles, allowing many jobs to be completed during the first visit.
The key is present, but the door will not open
A door that remains locked despite having the correct key may indicate a mechanical fault rather than a simple lockout.
Possible causes include:
- a damaged or worn cylinder;
- a failed lock case;
- a broken internal component;
- a misaligned door or locking mechanism;
- a damaged handle or spindle;
- a multipoint locking system failure.
These situations require careful work. Forcing the door can damage the door leaf, frame, handle or locking components.
Our priority is to regain access while avoiding unnecessary damage. Once the door is open, we inspect the mechanism and identify which part requires repair or replacement.
If the suitable component is available in the service vehicle, we can usually complete the repair immediately.
For unusual or specialised locking systems, a replacement part may need to be ordered. Where technically possible, we may provide a temporary solution so the door can remain securely closed until the final repair is completed.
Proof of access is required
Before opening an entrance door, we must be reasonably satisfied that you are authorised to enter the property.
Depending on the situation, we may ask to see:
- an identity document and address card;
- a current rental agreement;
- proof of ownership;
- an Airbnb or accommodation booking valid for the current date;
- confirmation from the property owner, host or property manager;
- another reliable form of access verification.
In some circumstances, additional confirmation from a building manager, host, owner or another person familiar with the property may be requested.
We reserve the right to refuse the opening if the right of access cannot be reasonably verified.
This policy protects property owners, guests and residents.
Emergency locksmith help for tourists and Airbnb guests
Being locked out in an unfamiliar city is particularly stressful, especially late at night when the host or property manager may not answer.
Over the years, we have helped hundreds of visitors regain access to their accommodation and avoid being left outside overnight.
English-speaking assistance is available on every shift. You can call us or send your location and a short description of the problem through WhatsApp.
For Airbnb and short-term rental properties, we first verify the active booking and, whenever possible, contact the host or property manager before replacing a cylinder or lock.
If the host cannot be reached and an urgent security measure is required, we explain the available options before proceeding and document the work performed.
After a cylinder replacement, the new keys must remain available for the host or property manager. Guests should inform the accommodation provider as soon as possible and follow their instructions regarding key handover or placement in a key safe.
Where the problem resulted from a mechanical fault rather than lost keys, we can provide an invoice and a description of the diagnosed issue and completed work. Any reimbursement remains subject to the agreement between the guest and the property owner or operator.
We can also speak directly with the owner or property manager by telephone to explain the fault, the work completed and any recommended further repairs.
