What information should I provide when calling?
Tell us your exact address, district, door type and what happens when you use the key or handle. It is also helpful to explain whether the door is only closed or fully locked and whether anyone has already attempted to drill or force the lock. Clear photographs can be sent through WhatsApp.
Door opening
Can you help if I am locked out?
Yes. We assist with apartment, Airbnb, office and other entrance-door lockouts throughout Budapest.
Can you open a door when the key is inside?
In many cases, yes. The opening method depends on the door, cylinder, fittings and whether the key has been left inside the lock.
Can every door be opened without damage?
No responsible locksmith can guarantee this before inspecting the door. We always prefer a non-destructive or minimally invasive method. If a component must be removed or replaced, we explain this before starting. Our priority is to protect the door leaf, frame and surrounding structure.
What if I have the correct key, but the door still does not open?
This may indicate a damaged cylinder, lock mechanism, handle or multipoint locking system. We first open the door carefully, then inspect the mechanism and explain which repair or replacement is necessary.
Can you open security doors?
Yes. We work with many Chinese-made, Hungarian and international security-door systems, including Hi-Sec, Uni-Sec, TerraSec, Nívó, Dierre, Mottura and Mul-T-Lock-related systems. The exact method depends on the installed mechanism and its condition.
Should I try opening the door myself?
We do not recommend drilling, forcing or dismantling the door based on an online video. An incorrect attempt can damage the cylinder, lock mechanism, multipoint system, door leaf or frame and make the final repair more expensive.
Proof of access
Do I need to prove that I am authorised to enter?
Yes. Before opening an entrance door, we must be reasonably satisfied that you have the right to access the property.
What documents can I use?
Depending on the situation, acceptable evidence may include an identity document and address card, a rental agreement, proof of ownership, a valid Airbnb or accommodation booking, or confirmation from the owner, host or property manager. Additional verification may be requested where necessary.
Can you refuse to open the door?
Yes. We reserve the right to refuse the opening when the customer’s right of access cannot be reasonably verified.
What happens in an ownership or tenancy dispute?
We do not participate in unclear ownership, possession, eviction or family disputes. Police or another competent authority may need to be present before any work can be considered.
Lost keys and lock replacement
Should I replace the lock after losing a key?
Usually, at least the cylinder should be replaced if the missing key could still provide access to the property. The complete lock mechanism does not always need to be changed if it remains in good condition.
Should I replace the cylinder after moving into a new apartment?
Yes. You cannot reliably know how many copies of the old keys exist or who may still have them. Replacing the cylinder makes all previous keys unusable.
What is the difference between a cylinder and a lock mechanism?
The cylinder is the part into which you insert the key. The lock mechanism is the internal component that moves the latch, bolt or additional locking points. Replacing the cylinder changes the keys. Replacing the mechanism repairs or renews the internal locking system.
Can you replace the lock immediately?
In many cases, yes. Our service vehicles carry a broad selection of commonly used cylinders and replacement components. Specialised mechanisms may need to be ordered.
Do I always need the most expensive cylinder?
No. The correct cylinder must suit the door, lock mechanism, protective fittings and actual security requirements. A premium cylinder cannot compensate for a weak or damaged entrance.
Lock cylinder options
What is an emergency-function cylinder?
It allows the correct key to operate the cylinder from outside even when another key has been left inserted on the inside. This can be useful for fixed-knob doors and homes where an elderly or vulnerable person lives.
Can one key operate several locks?
Yes. Compatible keyed-alike cylinders can be prepared so that the same key operates several separate locks.
What is a restricted-key system?
It is a system where official duplicate keys generally require presentation of a matching security or code card. This can improve key control in rental apartments, Airbnb properties, offices and commercial premises.
How many keys come with a new cylinder?
Many cylinders are supplied with three or five keys. The exact number depends on the selected model and is confirmed before installation.
Can a cylinder be too long?
Yes. A cylinder that projects too far beyond the external protective fitting may be unnecessarily exposed. Correct measurement is important for both security and proper operation.
Multipoint locks
What is a multipoint locking system?
A multipoint lock secures the door at several positions rather than only at the main lock case. It may operate additional rollers, bolts, hooks or locking points along the edge of the door.
Can a multipoint lock be repaired?
Yes. Depending on the fault, the system may be adjusted, repaired, partially replaced or completely replaced.
Does a failed multipoint lock mean I need a new door?
Usually not. If the door leaf and frame are in good condition, the mechanism can often be repaired, replaced or converted to a more widely available system.
Why is the handle difficult to lift?
The door may be misaligned, the locking points may be under pressure or the internal mechanism may be worn. Continuing to force the handle can cause further damage.
Should I order a multipoint mechanism myself?
Professional measurement is recommended. A difference of only a few millimetres can make an apparently similar mechanism impossible to install.
Security upgrades
Can you improve the security of my existing door?
Yes. Depending on the entrance, an upgrade may include a better cylinder, stronger protective fitting, restricted-key system, lock repair or alignment correction.
Is replacing the cylinder always enough?
No. The complete door, frame, mechanism and protective fittings must work together. In some cases, the cylinder is the only weak point. In others, additional work is necessary.
What is a security escutcheon?
It is a protective fitting around the external part of the cylinder. It reduces exposure and makes physical attack more difficult.
Can you upgrade a Hi-Sec or similar security door?
In many cases, yes. The factory-installed cylinder or external protection may be replaceable with a better compatible option.
Should I replace the cylinder after renovation?
It is often sensible because several contractors or temporary workers may have handled the keys.
Airbnb guests and tourists
Can you help Airbnb guests?
Yes. We regularly assist Airbnb and short-term rental guests who are locked out or have lost a key.
What proof does an Airbnb guest need?
A valid booking for the current date may be accepted. We may also contact the host or property manager to confirm access.
Can you replace an Airbnb lock without contacting the host?
Whenever possible, we contact the host or property manager before making a permanent change. If the host cannot be reached and an urgent security measure is required, we explain the available options and document the work performed.
Can you speak with the property owner or manager?
Yes. We can explain the diagnosed fault, completed work and recommended next steps by telephone.
Can the guest claim the cost from the host?
That depends on the agreement between the guest and the accommodation provider. We can provide an invoice and description of the completed work, but reimbursement is not guaranteed by us.
Prices and cancellation
How much does a locksmith cost in Budapest?
Typical prices are shown on our Prices page. The exact cost depends on the door, lock, opening method, replacement parts and complexity of the work.
Does the price include the call-out fee?
Yes. The displayed service prices include travel to the address within Budapest.
Can you give an exact price by telephone?
We can usually provide a preliminary estimate based on the information and photographs supplied. The final price is confirmed after inspecting the door and mechanism.
Can the price change after I accept it?
The agreed price does not change for the work described. When additional work becomes necessary, we explain the reason and price before continuing.
Do you negotiate prices?
Our stated prices are fixed and are not subject to negotiation.
Is there a cancellation fee?
A call-out fee may apply once a locksmith has been dispatched, including when the booking is cancelled before arrival. The applicable condition is explained when the service is confirmed.
Payment, invoice and warranty
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash in Hungarian forints, cash in euros, instant Hungarian bank transfer and Revolut transfer.
Do you provide an invoice?
Yes. An invoice or receipt is provided for completed work.
Do you provide a warranty?
Yes. We provide a one-year warranty on our installation work and eligible replacement parts, subject to normal use and the applicable product conditions.
Services we do not provide
Do you open cars or motorcycles?
No. We do not provide vehicle locksmith services for cars or motorcycles.
Do you open bicycle locks?
No. Bicycle-lock opening is not part of our service.
Do you open safes?
No. We do not provide safe-opening services.
Do you open suitcases or travel bags?
No. We do not open locked suitcases or travel bags.
Do you open lockers or changing-room cabinets?
No. Locker and cabinet opening is not part of our service.
Do you provide duplicate key cutting?
No. We are a fully mobile locksmith service and do not operate a walk-in key-cutting shop.
